Sustainability
What does Zero Carbon mean?
Zero Carbon status recognises companies offsetting 100% of their emissions.
To achieve Zero Carbon status, we worked with the experts at Ekos, who measured our carbon emissions. Next, we found solutions for reducing our carbon emissions by using electric vehicles, installing solar panels, reducing waste, and limiting airfreight. During this process, we managed to offset 120% of our remaining carbon emissions by contributing to the local and sustainable Rameka Forest. This work rewarded us with Climate Positive status.
We have since built these sustainable processes into our Business Plan so that every business decision we make accounts for the impact on Earth's climate.
What does Climate Positive mean?
Climate Positive status recognises companies offsetting more than 120% of their emissions, meaning they do more than cover their tracks. This means that Chia Sisters' overall business activities reduce carbon in the atmosphere.
Is Chia Sisters packaging environmentally friendly?
Yes, we design with the end-life of our products in mind, manufacturing in amounts we know we’ll use while using as much recyclable packaging as possible.
Most of our glass bottles are made from recycled glass, and all of our bottles can be recycled. Our labels are made of paper, and our products’ lids are made from recyclable aluminium.
At our factory, our team collects any used aluminium lids and places them in a Lions Club collection bucket. These lids are then turned into scrap metal, with the proceeds going to Kidney Kids, a not-for-profit organisation providing support and services to children with kidney disease/disorders and their family/whanau.
